Risk factors and clinical characteristics for bronchopulmonary dysplasia associated pulmonary hypertension in very-low-birth-weight infants
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Oct 28, 2021
Sun J, Weng B, Zhang X, et al. - In very-low-birth-weight infants (VLBWIs), specific risk factors for bronchopulmonary dysplasia associated pulmonary hypertension (BPD-PH) are: patent ductus arteriosus (OR 13.355) and birth weight (OR 0.995).
This is a retrospective case–control observational study including 83 VLBWIs with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) who were divided into pulmonary hypertension (PH) group (n = 18) or non-PH group (n = 65).
Significantly lower birth weight was seen in BPD-PH infants vs non-PH group.
A higher incidence of patent ductus arteriosus and longer durations of oxygen therapy and mechanical ventilation were reported in infants in the PH group vs the non-PH group.
