Risk factors and associated outcomes of early acute kidney injury in pediatric liver transplant recipients: A retrospective study
Journal of Pediatric Surgery Apr 02, 2020
Zhang Y, et al. - Via this retrospective study of 80 pediatric liver transplant patients, researchers sought to determine the risk factors for and associated outcomes of acute kidney injury (AKI) in these patients. The KDIGO Clinical Practice Guidelines for Acute Kidney Injury were used to define the occurrence of AKI. Pediatric liver transplant recipients exhibited an increased risk of AKI in presence of biliary atresia, increased time of anhepatic phase, and a lower postoperative jaundice clearance. Patients who developed AKI appeared to experience worse long-term outcomes compared with those having no acute kidney injury.
