Risk factor for steatorrhea in pediatric chronic pancreatitis patients
BMC Gastroenterology Dec 10, 2018
Hao L, et al. - In this research, the incidence and risk factors for steatorrhea were identified in pediatric and adult chronic pancreatitis (CP) patients admitted to the center from January 2000 to December 2013. According to their age at onset of CP, patients were assigned to the pediatric (< 18 years old) and adult group. Steatorrhea was noted to be extremely harmful for children. The identified risk factor for steatorrhea in the pediatric group was an age at the onset of CP, diabetes mellitus (DM), and severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). Pediatric patients were suggested to be closely monitored and examined in these high-risk groups and can benefit from a full adequate pancreatic exocrine replacement therapy.
