Risk-factor analysis of adjacent segment disease requiring surgery after short lumbar fusion: The influence of rheumatoid arthritis

Park JS, et al. - A retrospective cohort study was conducted to evaluate the incidence of adjacent segment disease (ASD) requiring surgery (ASDrS) following short lumbar fusion. Experts also assessed the risk factors of ASDrS, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). At 7-years following short lumbar fusion, ASD requiring surgery was predicted in 13.2% of cases. Findings confirmed that RA and the number of fusion segments served as risk factors.
