Risk calculator to predict 30-day readmission after coronary artery bypass: A strategic decision support tool
Heart, Lung, and Circulation Dec 04, 2018
Deo SV, et al. - Researchers sought to develop a simple calculator to determine the probability for re-admission. For this purpose, they identified admissions for isolated primary coronary artery bypass (CABG) using the national readmissions database (NRD) and stratified them according to 30-day readmission. They prepared a logistic regression model to determine the probability for re-admission. This model included pre, intra and postoperative variables and was tested for reliability with boot-strapping and 10-fold cross-validation. According to findings, to help reduce readmissions after coronary artery bypass surgery, the simple 30-days CABG readmission calculator proposed in this study can be used as a strategic tool. The most prominent indicators for readmission included end-stage renal disease and length of stay > 9 days.
