Right atrial and ventricular echocardiographic strain analysis predicts requirement for right ventricular support after left ventricular assist device implantation
European Heart Journal – Cardiovascular Imaging Apr 22, 2018
Charisopoulou D, et al. - Using 2D echocardiographic strain analysis, researchers evaluated right atrial (RA) and right ventricular (RV) mechanics and predicted the necessity for RV mechanical support after left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation. In addition to greater RV free-wall mechanical delay, lower RA longitudinal strain and RV free-wall longitudinal strain were also noted in LVAD recipients requiring right ventricular assist device support. In addition to pre-VAD-implantation assessment made using conventional echo measurements, RA and RV strain and dyssynchrony analysis could potentially offer additional incremental value.
