Rifaximin for the prevention of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and hepatorenal syndrome in cirrhosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Kamal F, et al. - The researchers performed this systematic review to investigate the efficacy of rifaximin for the prevention of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) and hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) in cirrhosis. They concluded that in cirrhosis, rifaximin had a protective effect against the development of SBP, but the quality of the evidence as per the GRADE framework was very low. For the prevention of HRS, rifaximin appeared effective.
