Rhinitis prevalence and association with atopic dermatitis
Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Apr 03, 2021
Knudgaard MH, Andreasen TH, Ravnborg N, et al. - By performing a systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers investigated the link between atopic dermatitis (AD) and rhinitis. PubMed, Embase, and CNKI were explored and 10,422 citations were identified. Qualitative and quantitative analyses included 341 and 302 articles, respectively. In AD patients vs reference people without AD, pooled prevalence of rhinitis was estimated to be 40.5% vs 18.0%. In AD cases, pooled prevalence of having both rhinitis and asthma was noted to be 14.2%. Experts found a link between AD and rhinitis, allergic rhinitis, and nonallergic rhinitis, respectively. Overall, findings reveal that patients with AD very commonly develop rhinitis, both allergic as well as nonallergic forms.
