Retrospective analysis of 1-year mortality after gastric cancer surgery: Total intravenous anesthesia vs volatile anesthesia
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Jun 18, 2019
Oh TK, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, researchers compared propofol-based total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) and inhalation anesthesia in terms of 1-year overall or cancer-related mortality in gastric cancer surgery patients. They analyzed medical records of ll patients (aged ≥18 years) who had elective gastric cancer surgery with curative intent at a single tertiary academic hospital between January 2005 and December 2015. Analyses were performed using propensity score (PS) matching and Cox proportional hazard models. Finally, 1538 patients (769 patients in each group) were included following PS matching. Compared with inhalation anesthesia, no significant association of propofol-based TIVA with a reduction in the 1-year overall or cancer-related mortality post-gastric cancer surgery was evident in this study.
