Demir ST, et al. - In this retrospective, nonrandomized, observational clinical study, investigators quantified the data of late-preterm newborns to delineate the screening results for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) of late-preterm babies born at 32–35 weeks gestational age (GA). They observed the development of different stages of ROP in 20.9% of cases in 32 < 33 weeks GA, 15% in 33 < 34 weeks GA, 17 infants in 34 < 35 weeks GA, and 6 infants in 35 < 36 weeks GA. Treatment was needed for 14 infants due to severe ROP ie, 7 in 32 < 33 weeks GA, 3 in 33 < 34 weeks GA, and 4 in 34 < 35 weeks GA. They suggested at least once examination for ROP regardless of birth weight among infants born at 34 weeks of GA or younger. Although, an increase in GA was reported with a decline in rates of ROP development.
