Retinal vessel phenotype in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma
Acta Ophthalmologica Feb 02, 2020
Chiquet C, Gavard O, Arnould L, et al. - Among 61 primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) patients and 61 controls matched for age, systemic hypertension and BMI, researchers described the phenotype of retinal vessels utilizing central retinal artery equivalent (CRAE), central retinal vein equivalent (CRVE), tortuosity and fractal dimension (FD). Utilizing a non-mydriatic camera, fundus images of the right eye were acquired. According to this prospective case-control multicentre study, POAG was linked to a narrowing of arterial and venous retinal vessels, a higher arteriole-to-venule ratio and lower values of FD. No significant difference between the two groups was found for tortuosity. A significant association was found between CRAE and retinal nerve fibre layer thickness. There was no connection between the Vessel Assessment and Measurement Platform for Images of the Retina parameters and the visual field indices. CRAE's relationship with the thickness of RNFL requires further study.
