Retinal pigment epithelium tears after anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy for neovascular age-related macular degeneration
Ophthalmologica Feb 08, 2021
Ahn J, Hwang DDJ, Sohn J, et al. - Researchers performed a study to assess and identify the clinical characteristics of visual prognostic factors for retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) tears. Medical records were retrospectively reviewed for treatment-naive neovascular age-related macular degeneration patients who received intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) injections. Data reported that the incidence of RPE tears was 1.36%. There was no difference in the occurrence of RPE tears according to the type of anti-VEGF agent. Before and after RPE tears, the final best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was proportional to the BCVA. Final visual acuity and macular anatomy can benefit from continuous treatment with anti-VEGF following the incidence of RPE tears.
