Retinal fluid volatility associated with interval tolerance and visual outcomes in diabetic macular edema in the VISTA phase III trial
American Journal of Ophthalmology Dec 02, 2020
Ehlers JP, Uchida A, Sevgi DD, et al. - In this post hoc sub-analysis of phase III, VISTA-DME study, researchers sought to characterize longitudinal retinal fluid dynamics on spectral domain OCT and to identify imaging biomarkers that anticipate the worsening of DME with interval extension during anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy. Eyes got either intravitreal aflibercept injection 2 mg every 4 weeks (2q4) or every 8 weeks after 5 initial monthly injections (2q8), and eyes imaged with the Cirrus HD-OCT system were involved. Fifty-five eyes were involved in the 2q4 group, and 58 eyes were involved in the 2q8 group. Early fluid dynamics is related to intolerance of interval extension as calculated by early retinal fluid index (RFI) volatility and cumulative RFI instability with aggregate increased RFI.
