Retinal and choroidal thickness in pediatric patients with hypoalbuminemia caused by nephrotic syndrome
BMC Ophthalmology Feb 10, 2019
Zhang W, et al. - A sum of 51 pediatric candidates were studied to evaluate the choroidal thickness (CT) and retinal thickness (RT) caused by nephrotic syndrome (NS) and also to conclude the correlation between the subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT) and serum protein concentration. They observed a slight increase in mean RTs at the T2.5, T2, N1.5, N2, and N2.5 locations and the average macular horizontal RT in NS group. A correlation was noted between SFCT in subjects with NS and age, body height, body weight, axial length, total protein, albumin, prealbumin, and 24-h urine volume. They recorded a negative correlation between the SFCT and serum TP concentration. The TP concentration and body weight had the highest association with the SFCT in the multiple linear regression analysis.
