Vancor E, et al. - Researchers, in this work, reported the results of the first year of the screening program that used a saliva polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay (confirmed by a urine PCR assay) to detect congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV). Observations revealed that for congenital CMV infection, the targeted screening program had a low yield. They recommended considering other strategies for identifying children at risk of hearing loss as a result of congenital CMV infection.
