Respiratory viral infections in infancy and school age respiratory outcomes and health-care costs
Pediatric Pulmonology Jan 11, 2018
MacBean V, et al. - The objective of this work was to evaluate the ramification of viral lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) in infancy, including rhinovirus (RV) and infancy respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), on the school-age pulmonary function and health-care utilization in prematurely born children. RV and RSV LRTIs in infancy did not illustrate a connection with higher respiratory health-care costs after infancy among moderately prematurely born children. Higher respiratory health-care costs and greater pulmonary function impairment were reported by those who experienced LRTIs caused by other respiratory viruses (including RV).
