Residual disease burden in patients with axial spondyloarthritis and psoriatic arthritis despite low disease activity states in a multiethnic Asian population
The Journal of Rheumatology May 05, 2021
Liu V, Fong W, Kwan YH, et al. - The present study was performed to assess the burden of residual disease in patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) or psoriatic arthritis (PsA) who achieved low disease activity (LDA) status. Baseline data were obtained from a clinic registry of SpA in a tertiary hospital in Singapore. LDA was characterized as Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) Disease Activity Score based on erythrocyte sedimentation rate < 2.1 or Bath AS Disease Activity Index < 3/10 for axSpA. Researchers enrolled a total of 262 cases of axSpA (21% women; mean ± standard deviation (SD) age 42 ± 14 yrs). The data exhibited that despite being in LDA, individuals with axSpA and PsA experienced substantial residual burden in pain, poorer physical function, and mental well-being.
