Reproductive cancer risk factors among relatives of cancer patients in a tertiary oncology center
BMC Cancer Feb 21, 2019
Atta N, et al. – In this study, researchers investigated prevalence of some gynecological cancer risk factors in a population of female relatives of cancer patients in Hacettepe University Oncology Hospital. They also determined the levels of women’s awareness and/or behavior toward available screening tools. They found high tobacco use, low protective condom use, and low rates of physical activity in the study population. Compared with the general Turkish population, this population had a lower percentage of some risk factors, including early menarche. Awareness and behavior of the women were better about mammography vs the Pap test. The authors, therefore, suggested that some measures implemented to increase awareness and to modify behavior toward cancer prevention.
