Reprocessing of single-use endoscopic variceal band ligation devices: A pilot study
Endoscopy Aug 19, 2017
Visrodia K, et al. – This pilot study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of reprocessing endoscopic ligation devices (ELDs) using terminal microbial cultures and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) testing. The authors revealed that reprocessing of ELDs was effective, resulting in infrequent and minimal microbial contamination. To ensure adequacy of ELD reprocessing, microbial culturing could be used if pursued. Continued efforts to better define the adequacy and long–term effects of reprocessing ELDs were needed until reusable ELDs were commercially available.
