Repetitions to failure vs not to failure during concurrent training in healthy elderly men: A randomized clinical trial
Experimental Gerontology Apr 01, 2018
da SilvaNeves LX, et al. - Neuromuscular adaptations induced by concurrent training (CT) were determined in elderly men. Further neuromuscular performance gains and muscle hypertrophy could not be achieved with repetitions until concentric failure, and even a low number of repetitions relative to the maximal possible (i.e., 50%) optimizes neuromuscular performance in elderly men. In addition, compared to training using maximal repetitions, training volume appeared more important for muscle hypertrophy.
