Reperfusion treatment and stroke outcomes in hospitals with telestroke capacity
JAMA Neurology May 17, 2021
Wilcock AD, Schwamm LH, Zubizarreta JR, et al. - Since telestroke is increasingly used in hospital emergency departments, but there has been minimal research on its effect on treatment and outcomes, researchers sought to describe differences in care patterns and outcomes among patients with acute ischemic stroke who presented to hospitals with and without telestroke capacity. For this analysis, they matched patients with acute ischemic stroke who first presented to hospitals with telestroke capacity with those who presented to control hospitals without telestroke capacity. The sample consisted of 153,272 patients. Patients with ischemic stroke who were treated in hospitals with telestroke capacity were more likely to undergo reperfusion therapy and had a lower 30-day mortality rate.
