Repeat pulmonary resection for lung malignancies does not affect the postoperative complications: A retrospective study
BMC Pulmonary Medicine Apr 07, 2021
Motono N, Iwai S, Iijima Y, et al. - Researchers assessed the perioperative variables as well as the risk of repeat pulmonary resection (RPR) in multiple lung cancer patients. They analyzed 41 patients who underwent RPR. The postoperative complication rate of both the first operation and of the second operation was noted to be 29%. In the ipsilateral group, a significantly longer operation time as well as a longer wound length was observed when compared with the contralateral group. An operation time over 2 hours at the second operation tended to affect the incidence of postoperative complication, even though there were no significant factors for an greater incidence of postoperative complication in the multivariate analysis.
Overall, experts found RPR as safely feasible and it was not related to an elevated rate of postoperative complications, even on the ipsilateral side.
