Repair of partial atrioventricular canal defect in adult patients: Two-year follow-up outcomes of a retrospective study
Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery Jun 18, 2019
Song L, et al. - Researchers analyzed the mid-term follow-up outcomes in 46 adult patients with late diagnosed and repaired partial atrioventricular canal defects, in this single-center retrospective study. Mean age at surgery was 37.6 ± 12.4 years and 10(21.7%) were male of overall participants. Prior arrythmia was reported in 11 cases. Tricuspid valve regurgitation was present in 41 cases and 22 patients had tricuspid valvuloplasty. Mitral regurgitation was detected in all cases. Mitral valve replacement was performed on 6 patients with valve incrassation and shrinkage, and mitral repair surgery was used to treat the rest. Findings revealed good outcomes of partial atrioventricular canal defect repair in adult patients. Excellent rates of mortality and reoperation were seen in relation to delayed surgery timing, however, it appears to bring more preoperative complications and impacted heart function, compared to surgery performed in preschool years.
