Renal function after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest; the influence of temperature management and coronary angiography, a post hoc study of the target temperature management trial
Critical Care May 12, 2019
Rundgren M, et al. - In this post hoc analysis of the TTM (target temperature management) trial, which was a multinational randomized controlled trial where target temperature of 33 °C was compared to 36 °C in patients with return of spontaneous circulation following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), researchers assessed the incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) post-OHCA and how renal function was influenced by TTM and early coronary angiography. They analyzed 853 patients from the main trial and 517 had early coronary angiography. The observed rates of AKI were not different between TTM at 33 °C compared to management at 36 °C in OHCA survivors after multivariable adjustment. There was no link between early angiography and an increased risk of AKI in the adjusted analyses.
