Remodelling and inflammation in preschoolers with severe recurrent wheeze and asthma outcome at school age
Clinical & Experimental Allergy May 11, 2018
Lezmi G, et al. - Researchers explored the association between airway remodelling and inflammation in preschoolers with severe recurrent wheeze and asthma outcome at school age. They re-examined preschoolers (38.4 months) initially investigated with bronchial biopsies for asthma symptoms and lung function at school age. In preschoolers with severe recurrent wheeze, future severe exacerbations might be predicted by eosinophilic inflammation, neutrophilia might be related to better lung function. A possible impact of changes in airway smooth muscle and vascularity on lung function at school age was also indicated.
