Remission of type 2 diabetes and sleeve gastrectomy in morbid obesity: A comparative systematic review and meta-analysis
Obesity Surgery Oct 31, 2019
Madadi F, et al. - Via performing a systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers compared the long-term efficacy of sleeve gastrectomy (SG) on T2DM remission with remission seen after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) or gastric banding (GB). They included 35 studies consisting of 18,138 T2DM patients. Of these patients, 2,480 underwent SG, 10,597 patients underwent RYGB and 5,061 patients underwent GB. As per outcomes, SG results in important remission of T2DM. Nevertheless, as RYGB surgery results in remission significantly more commonly, the latter procedure remains the gold standard for reaching T2DM remission in patients with concurrent obesity.
