Remifentanil patient-controlled vs epidural analgesia on intrapartum maternal fever: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth Mar 20, 2020
Lu G, et al. - Whether remifentanil patient-controlled analgesia (RPCA) vs epidural analgesia (EA) affords a superior choice to reduce the risk of intrapartum maternal fever during labor, was investigated in a systematic review and meta-analysis. PubMed, EMBASE and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were explored from inception to April 2019 to identify all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the risk of intrapartum maternal fever with RPCA vs EA alone or EA together with spinal analgesia during labor. The search yielded 6 RCTs with 3,341 patients. Researchers found no solid proof to illustrate a lower incidence of intrapartum maternal fever in patients receiving intravenous RPCA vs those receiving EA.
