Relative prognostic importance and optimal levels of risk factors for mortality and cardiovascular outcomes in type 1 diabetes mellitus
Circulation Apr 19, 2019
Rawshani A, et al. - Using Cox regression and machine learning analyses, researchers compared the prognostic value of 17 risk factors for mortality and cardiovascular outcomes in subjects with type 1 diabetes mellitus in this national observational cohort study from the Swedish National Diabetes Register (1998-2014). For glycohemoglobin, systolic blood pressure, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, the optimal cut point levels were also determined. Among diabetic subjects, glycohemoglobin, albuminuria, duration of diabetes mellitus, systolic blood pressure, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol were identified as the most significant predictors for mortality and cardiovascular outcomes. A significantly lower risk for outcomes was observed in relation to lower levels for glycohemoglobin, systolic blood pressure, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol than contemporary guideline target levels.
