Relationship of coronary artery calcification with renal function decline and mortality in predialysis chronic kidney disease patients
Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation Jul 20, 2018
Lamarche MC, et al. - Researchers performed this prospective cohort study of patients with stages 3–5 chronic kidney disease (CKD) with coronary artery calcification (CAC) scores to assess kidney function decline and the link between CAC and renal function decline and mortality. They determined development of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) and all-cause mortality at 5 and 10 years. They found that both ESKD and mortality were independently predicted by CAC at 10 years. The highest CAC score or the worst chronic kidney disease mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD) derangements were observed in those who developed ESKD at the fastest rate.
