Relationship between vitamin D receptor gene polymorphism and susceptibility to chronic kidney disease and periodontal disease in community-dwelling elderly
Journal of Clinical Periodontology May 21, 2018
Yoshihara A, et al. - Experts probed the possible association between vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphism and susceptibility to chronic kidney disease (CKD) and periodontal disease. They determined the kidney function levels based on the estimated glomerular filtration rate. The subjects were split into 2 groups (highest quartile versus the other three groups combined), after classifying participants into quartile groups according to estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) or periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA) values. They also studied VDR TaqI genotyping. Findings suggested a probable association of VDR TaqI genotype with CKD during inflammatory conditions caused by periodontal disease.
