Relationship between serum uric acid levels and different types of atrial fibrillation: An updated meta-analysis
Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Jun 23, 2021
Wang X, Hou Y, Wang X, et al. - Through this meta-analysis, it was investigated whether and how serum uric acid (SUA) is associated with atrial fibrillation (AF) incidence. Researchers also assessed the variation in SUA levels in different types of AF. They explored Embase, PubMed and the Cochrane Library to find relevant reports. They found 31 eligible studies including 504,958 participants. Findings from 8 cohort studies revealed that a significant increase in AF incidence was brought about by high SUA levels. Outcomes from 29 studies showed that AF patients had increased SUA levels. Significantly higher SUA levels were detected in new-onset AF, paroxysmal AF and persistent AF vs that in patients without AF. Findings revealed an obvious correlation of high SUA levels with occurrence rate of AF. The results showed presence of significantly different SUA levels among cases with new-onset, paroxysmal and persistent AF.
