Relationship between presarcopenia and quality of life in patients with chronic liver disease: A cross-sectional study
European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Oct 09, 2019
Ohashi K, Ishikawa T, Imai M, et al. - In patients with chronic liver disease (CLD), researchers explored the connection between presarcopenia (PS) and quality of life (QOL). Three hundred thirty-five patients (mean age was 69.52 ± 10.17 years) with CLD were evaluated in this cross-sectional study. Data reported that PS prevalence was 53.7%. Study participants were divided into the PS and non-presarcopenia groups. Low physical function, RP, and BP in short form-36 were QOL features of PS patients with CLD. Moreover, in PS patients aged 65–74 years, social role functioning was low, while in those aged at least 75 years, RP and BP were low. According to the multivariate analysis, female gender and RP were independent predictors of PS. Maintaining and increasing muscle mass in CLD patients can help improve physical QOL.
