Relationship between pregnancy complications and subsequent coronary artery disease assessed by coronary computed tomographic angiography in black women

Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging Jul 23, 2019

Wichmann JL, et al. - Black women with and without a history of prior pregnancy complications were compared regarding the prevalence and degree of coronary artery disease (CAD) as assessed by coronary computed tomographic angiography (CCTA). Groups of black women with a previous history of preterm delivery (n = 154), preeclampsia (n = 137), or gestational diabetes mellitus (n = 148), and a matched control group of black women who gave birth without such complications (n = 445) were retrospectively evaluated for patient traits and CCTA findings. The analysis revealed a higher prevalence of CAD on CCTA among black women with a history of pregnancy complications, especially gestational diabetes mellitus. An independent link was only seen between a history of gestational diabetes mellitus and any and obstructive CAD on CCTA.
