Relationship between intraprostatic urethral sphincter status and prostate volume as revealed by magnetic resonance imaging
Urology May 26, 2018
Endo F, et al. - Researchers assessed the relationship between the lengths of 2 regions of the intraprostatic urethral sphincter, the distal region (from the apex to the adenoma; AA) and the proximal region (from the adenoma to the verumontanum; AV) and prostate volume (PV) in patients with clinical benign prostate hyperplasia. Findings could suggest an increase in the proximal length, which was covered by the adenoma, as prostate hyperplasia progressed, whereas the distal length remained the same. Importantly, the intraprostatic length of the striated sphincter could be preserved when the urethra was dissected at the apex during RP.
