Relationship between intraoperative serum lactate and hemoglobin levels on postoperative renal function in patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery
Journal of Cardiac Surgery May 10, 2018
Mitchell SC, et al. - Low-risk elective coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) patients were examined, to determine the link between serum lactate and hemoglobin levels on renal function and postoperative outcome. Patients with renal dysfunction (baseline creatinine>2 mg/dL) were excluded. The links between lactate, hemoglobin, and acute kidney injury (AKI) were assessed using multivariate logistic regression. Development of transient acute renal dysfunction was reported in 15% of patients who underwent elective cardiopulmonary bypass. The factors that showed association with an increased risk of kidney injury included high lactate levels and low hemoglobin levels during cardiopulmonary bypass.
