Relationship between fresh frozen plasma to packed red blood cell transfusion ratio and mortality in cardiovascular surgery
Journal of Anesthesia Jun 01, 2018
Tsukinaga A, et al. - Researchers evaluated the association between FFP (fresh frozen plasma)/pRBC (packed red blood cell) transfusion ratio and outcomes in patients who underwent cardiovascular surgery. Findings suggested an association of higher FFP/RBC ratio with reduced risk of death, stroke and myocardial infarction only in patients with cardiovascular surgery receiving a massive transfusion. An awareness regarding the judicious FFP replacement playing a critical role in the successful management of massive transfusion in cardiac surgery ought to be created among the clinicians.
