Relationship between fasting plasma glucose and incidence of diabetes in children and adolescents
Diabetic Medicine Mar 21, 2019
Yang CY, et al. - Based on its ability to predict paediatric diabetes, researchers examined the appropriate fasting plasma glucose threshold to define prediabetes in children and adolescents. Those with abnormal results in repeated urine tests were subjected to further physical examination and blood tests in a national survey of diabetes and renal disease in all school-aged children in Taiwan between 1992 and 2000. For predicting paediatric diabetes, the area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve for fasting plasma glucose was 0.628. An association was found between fasting plasma glucose and the incidence of paediatric diabetes. The outcomes can be used as reference data for the definition of paediatric prediabetes by a cut-off value.
