Relationship between childhood socioeconomic position and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs): A systematic review
Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health Oct 04, 2019
Walsh D, et al. - Researchers analyzed the published literature data in order to determine the association between childhood socioeconomic position (SEP) and adverse childhood experiences’ (ACEs), via this systematic review. They searched MEDLINE, PsycINFO, ProQuest and Cochrane Library databases in order to identify reports including measurement of SEP in childhood; measurement of multiple ACEs; considering ACEs as the outcome; and that provided statistical quantification of the link between childhood SEP and ACEs. Findings revealed a greater risk of ACEs/maltreatment in correlation with lower childhood SEP. Since a marked rise in UK child poverty levels has been predicted, any policy approach that ignores the socioeconomic context to ACEs is thus flawed.
