Relationship between body mass index and rehabilitation outcomes in subacute stroke with dysphagia
American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Jun 25, 2019
Morone G, et al. - In hemiparetic patients with stroke in the subacute phase, researchers investigated the link between body mass index and rehabilitation outcome. The body mass index and Barthel Index both at admission and discharge were assessed in this prospective study on 664 patients. A significant correlation between the efficacy of rehabilitation and body mass index at discharge and percentage change in body mass index was seen, but not with body mass index at admission. Rehabilitation outcomes could be affected by the change in body mass index during rehabilitation, in addition to body mass index value.
