Relationship between body mass index and outcomes for patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma
Oral Diseases Aug 30, 2018
Wang C, et al. - In northern Chinese patients, authors gauged the body mass index (BMI) as a prognostic factor and evaluated the association between pretreatment BMI and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) outcomes. Findings suggested a probable contribution of obesity to a higher recurrence rate and a worse prognosis in OSCC patients vs in normal-weight patients in northern China. Nonetheless, a higher risk of postoperative complications was seen in underweight patients. No significant relationship between BMI and disease-free survival (DFS) or disease-specific survival (DSS) was indicated by Kaplan-Meier curves.
