Relation of regional myocardial structure and function in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and amyloidois: A combined two-dimensional speckle tracking and cardiovascular magnetic resonance analysis
European Heart Journal – Cardiovascular Imaging Aug 07, 2018
Pagourelias ED, et al. - In a group of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and cardiac amyloidosis (CA), researchers determined the link between segmental morphology (wall thickness [WT] and WT location [LT: base-mid-apex]), loading conditions and underlying pathological substrate (histology [H], hypertrophy vs infiltration) with segmental longitudinal (SLS) and circumferential (SCS) strain. Participants were 30 patients with biopsy-proven CA and 50 patients with HCM matched for maximum WT. Findings demonstrated a differential impact of local morphological parameters on regional myocardial mechanics. They observed that, while SLS was dominated by WT, SCS was more determined by LT and H. These data may help in the diagnosis and prognosis of patients with thickened hearts.
