Relation of increased epicardial fat after Fontan palliation to cardiac output and systemic ventricular ejection fraction
The American Journal of Cardiology Jan 14, 2018
Lubert AM, et al. - Herein, researchers compared epicardial fat volume (EFV) between Fontan patients and a group of repaired tetralogy of Fallot patients (rTOF). They found higher indexed EFV in individuals post-Fontan, relative to patients with rTOF. Also, indexed EFV was found to be related to lower ventricular ejection fraction and cardiac index. In addition, data reported that increased EFV could play a role in the failing Fontan circulation.
