Relation of CHA2DS2VASC score with hemorrhagic stroke and mortality in patients undergoing fibrinolytic therapy for ST elevation myocardial infarction
American Journal of Cardiology Oct 24, 2018
Ogunbayo GO, et al. - Researchers used the Nationwide Inpatient Sample database to examine the association of CHA2DS2VASC score with hemorrhagic stroke (HS) and mortality in patients (admissions) aged ≥ 18 years with a primary diagnosis of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) who received systemic thrombolysis. Participants were stratified based on CHA2DS2VASC score 0-3, 4-6 and 7-9 as low, intermediate, and high risk, respectively. Fibrinolytic therapy (FT) was received by 39,579 (4.3%) patients, of 917,307 admissions with a primary diagnosis of STEMI. A higher risk of hemorrhagic stroke and death after FT for STEMI was observed among patients with high CHA2DS2VASC score (7-9). In this cohort, mortality was better predicted than HS by using CHA2DS2VASC score.
