Relation between age and unplanned readmissions after percutaneous coronary intervention (findings from the Nationwide Readmission Database)
The American Journal of Cardiology Apr 19, 2018
Kwok CS, et al. - Researchers examined the effect of age on readmissions after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) by analyzing age specific 30-day rates and causes of unplanned readmissions for patients in the Nationwide Readmission Database in the United States between 2010 and 2014. Following PCI, the reported rates of unplanned 30-day readmissions were highest for the oldest patients (≥75 years), with different causes (non-cardiac causes including infections, gastrointestinal disease and bleeding, as well as cardiac causes including heart failure) for readmission compared to younger patients. These findings call for age-specific interventions to reduce readmissions after PCI.
