Regional variations in hospital management and post-discharge mortality in patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome
Clinical Research in Cardiology Apr 21, 2018
Bueno H, et al. - In order to determine the regional variability in the management and mortality of patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndromes (NSTE-ACS), researchers compared NSTE-ACS hospital survivors enrolled in two prospective registries (EPICOR and EPICOR Asia) among eight pre-defined regions (Northern E, Southern E, Eastern E, Latin America, China, India, South-East Asia, and South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore). Among these patients, patient features, hospital care, coronary revascularization and post-discharge mortality showed wide regional variations. These included rates of diabetes, smoking, coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention, and coronary artery bypass graft. Focused regional interventions are required to improve the quality of care for NSTE-ACS patients.
