Refractive outcomes after trabecular micro-bypass stents (iStent inject) with cataract extraction in open-angle glaucoma
Clinical Ophthalmology Mar 06, 2020
Ioannidis AS, et al. - In view of the possible safety and efficacy of the introduction of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery in conjunction with cataract surgery in lowering intraocular pressure, researchers examined a cohort of patients undergoing simultaneous cataract removal and iStent inject for the refractive outcomes and reviewed the potential implications of combined surgery in patients with co-existent glaucoma. In this retrospective consecutive case series, they included 106 eyes of 89 patients from 2 surgeons. Combined femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery and the insertion of two trabecular micro-bypass stents (iStent inject) were undertaken in the patients. This novel cohort of glaucoma patients achieved excellent refractive outcomes. As per the results, the second-generation device (iStent inject) is suggested as refractively neutral.
