Refractive laser-assisted cataract surgery vs conventional manual surgery: Comparing efficacy and safety in 3144 eyes
American Journal of Ophthalmology Apr 26, 2019
Nithianandan H, et al. - In this retrospective, consecutive, interventional comparative case series, investigators examined 3144 consecutive eyes of which 1580 were treated via manual cataract surgery (MCS) and 1564 were treated via refractive femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (ReLACS) to study the effectiveness and safety of eyes experiencing either conventional MCS or ReLACS. They observed lesser surgical time with ReLACS (MCS: 7.7±0.1 min vs ReLACS: 6.8±0.1 min), lower chances of postoperative cystoid macular edema and more reduction of mean absolute spherical error.
