Reflux symptoms in gastroparesis: Correlation with gastroparesis symptoms, gastric emptying, and esophageal function testing
Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology Apr 11, 2019
Jehangir A, et al. - In this investigation, researchers determined the relationship between reflux and gastroparesis (Gp), examining symptoms as well as objective testing. Investigators found that Gp subjects with gastroesophageal reflux disease had more severe 4-hour gastric retention, and more often had reduced lower esophageal sphincter resting pressure and esophageal motility disorders. The subscore for heartburn/regurgitation had a moderate correlation with somatic symptoms and weak correlations with anxiety and depression. Overall, they concluded that the severity of Gp reflux symptoms has a strong correlation with total Gastroparesis Cardinal Symptom Index (GCSI) score, weak correlation with gastric retention, and no correlation with esophageal pH monitoring.
