Reevaluation of the efficacy of first line regimen for Helicobacter pylori

Tariq H, Patel H, Kamal MU, et al. - In this retrospective single center observational study, researchers tested the effectiveness of Levofloxacin based triple antibiotic regimen as compared with Clarithromycin based triple therapy and Bismuth based quadruple therapy in people (n = 177) who had the Helicobacter pylori treatment. In individuals treated with Clarithromycin based triple therapy as compared with Levofloxacin based triple therapy and Bismuth quadruple therapy, the eradication rates were significantly higher. Among a selected US population, significantly lower eradication rates with Levofloxacin triple therapy were observed. Therefore, it may not be a suitable first-line treatment among this US population and the regimen based on Clarithromycin may still be successfully used.
