Reduction in anastomotic flow disturbance within a modified end-to-side arteriovenous fistula configuration: Results of a computational flow dynamic model
Nephrology Jan 10, 2018
Carroll J, et al. - In this study, researchers investigated if a modification to the peri-anastomotic vein configuration during end-to-side arteriovenous fistula (AVF) creation would achieve a favorable hemodynamic environment compared with the standard acute-angle AVF. For this purpose, they used computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling and found that improvements in the hemodynamic environment of an AVF were achievable when a gentle change in direction was present in the vein segment. Furthermore, data indicated that this may result in improved maturation and AVF patency via reduction in disturbed flow patterns.
